What Is The Amazon Prime Family Membership? Is It Worth It?

What Is The Amazon Prime Family Membership

Amazon seems to be getting more and more membership services and the Amazon Prime Family Membership is another one of those programs.  This time geared to families with babies and young children.

I do want to clarify that this membership used to be called the “Amazon Mom” Prime Membership.  But since mom’s aren’t the only ones who take care of their children, Amazon got with the times (after a bunch of Dad bloggers campaigned for a name change) and renamed the program to Amazon Family.

What Is The Amazon Prime Family Membership?

Like the title says this is a prime membership, but with a twist.  So if you are already an amazon prime member, then you can start taking advantages of the Family Membership today!

If you aren’t a prime member, you can check it out for free with Amazon’s 30 day free trial!  If after the 30 days you don’t think it’s for you, then simply log into your account and cancel your membership.  But don’t forget or your credit card will start being charged.  So put a reminded on your phone or in your calendar!

To see exactly what you get as part of a prime membership (in addition to the fabulous 2 day free shipping), click here.

Now that you are set up with a prime membership, let’s take a closer look at the Family aspect of it.

You can sign up for the family membership once you have joined Amazon Prime.

Special Features Of the Amazon Family Membership Program

♥ 20% off baby essentials like diapers and wipes
♥ Receive a 15% off Baby Registry completion coupon.  Plus get access to limited time offers such as Amazon’s Welcome Box (it’s FREE)
♥ Exclusive deals and coupons from Amazon Family
♥ Amazon Free Time Unlimited – this offers unlimited access to many kid-friendly books, movies, TV shows, apps and games starting at $2.99 a month (with a prime membership).  But if you are a regular Seeme and Liz reader, you will know that I am not a fan of young children “learning” from TV and apps, because babies, toddlers and young children learn best through hands on play and interacting with others.

You can save even more by signing up with the Subscribe and Save Program!  I will talk about that some more after going over a few important details of the Baby Registry.

A quick note on how the 15% off Baby Registry Completion Coupon works.

This is a one time coupon that will show up on your registry once you are eligible (usually after 14 days of creating your registry). The discount can only be applied 60 days before your baby is due (you enter this date when filling out your registry information) and up to 180 days after. When you click on the message that shows at the top of your registry page it will tell you which products are eligible for the discount and what the discounted price is.

What is Amazon’s Subscribe and Save Program?

Yes, here is another program you can join.

Subscribe and Save is meant for products that you typically buy every month.  By signing up with subscribe and save you are eligible for discounts (often 15-20% off) when you place monthly orders.  And by being an Amazon Family member there are even more discounts!

This is great. I had no idea of the potential of the family membership! Also, HOW COOL IS IT that you can have a baby registry with them!! We truly are in a digital word, aren’t we? The “Subscribe and Save” is a really cool feature too. I had no idea about all of this… I wish I would have found this sooner!
    Thank you for sharing this!!

The Amazon Prime Family Membership is definitely a cost saver for family with kids. It is definitely good to have such a program to bring the family together. However being single, I would not think of getting the service for the time being until I have settled down with a child of my own.

Do you have any recommendations for me as a single guy residing with my parents?

      Hi Leo,

The Amazon Family membership is an extension of the prime membership. If you shop online a lot then the prime membership would probably make sense for you since Amazon has pretty much everything anyone could need. Just don’t sign up for the family portion. Although you would be surprised at some of the stuff you can find in the subscribe and save section. You can try Prime for free for 30 days.

    Hello there,

Great post! It seems that the amazon prime family membership is a good deal to subscribe to. I really like the advantages you mentioned especially for the 20% discount on baby items as I am a father of a 1-year daughter.

But I would like to know how much the monthly or yearly subscription to amazon prime is after the free trial has ended? Appreciate your answer & keep up the good work.

    Cheers,Ehab

      Hi Ehab!

The Amazon Prime membership is $9.99 a month or $99 for the year. You don’t need to pay anything extra to access the family part of the membership.

      Hope that helps!
